First Visit
When & What Is My Child’s First “Regular” Visit?
We are excited to welcome you and your child to our office! Our specially trained staff is ready to make your child feel comfortable and build anticipation that this appointment is going to be FUN! Parents are encouraged to come to the operatory with their child and participate in their care.
The first “regular” dental visit should be no later than your child’s first birthday. We will gently examine and count your child’s teeth (using the “ABC” method). X-rays (“pictures of your smile”) may be taken to reveal decay and check on the progress of your child’s permanent teeth under the gums (yes, that’s where teeth come from). We may clean your child’s teeth (“tickle their teeth with a toothbrush”) and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. We will make sure your child is receiving adequate fluoride at home. Most important of all, we will review with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth. We will provide thorough information on topics such as preventative care, future growth and development, as well as answer any questions you may have.
The first visit usually lasts about 30-40 minutes and it is recommended that younger children be seen for morning appointments when they are fresh and ready for the day. For patients with immediate dental care such as pain, Dr. Kara will focus on the problem and possibly postpone routine dental care such as cleanings for a later dental visit.
You will leave our office confident in our care and the commitment Czarkowski Pediatric Dentistry has made to your child’s oral health.
